Case study
The saga
The Shadowland Saga is my dark-fantasy series for young readers, and for the grown-ups who never stopped being one. Book I is out in the world, Book II is in the works, and theshadowlandsaga.com is live now.
Book I: The Cat's Maw
The Cat's Maw is the first book in The Shadowland Saga: a young-adult fantasy novel accompanied by an enhanced audiobook performed by SOVA Award winner David Kaye.
Recognition
The book won Best YA Mystery at the Gelett Burgess Children's Book Awards and a silver medal for pre-teen fiction at the Moonbeam Children's Book Awards. It was also named a VOYA Magazine Top Shelf honoree.
Kirkus Reviews: "Burgess leaves readers clawing for the sequel." Midwest Book Review: "Five stars. Haunting fantasy not for the faint of heart."
What's next
theshadowlandsaga.com is open, with "The Night Sky" teaser: trace the constellations to reveal the Prophecy, line by line. On Halloween the full world opens, with the lore site, the Shadowland card game and a free-ebook funnel going live together.
Book II, The Wolf's Claw, is in the works.
